The Assisted Dying debate continues to stall without the best outcome for all, not because the arguments are unclear, but because those in positions of authority remain too afraid of getting this wrong. We show more compassion to our animals than to human beings enduring unbearable circumstances, simply because fear keeps decision‑makers from confronting what needs to be addressed. This article argues that courage – not caution – is what’s missing, and that until we prioritise getting this right, those who need choice and dignity will continue to be left without either.
