What happens when technology outpaces the very foundation of our society – work itself? As artificial intelligence rapidly replaces both manual and cognitive labour, the promise of Universal Basic Income (UBI) is being offered as a solution. But is UBI truly the answer, or just the final illusion of a collapsing, money-centric system? This essay explores why UBI cannot save us, and why a new, people-first approach – rooted in local economies, contribution, and personal sovereignty – is urgently needed for a future where human value is restored and communities thrive.
